It may be hard to believe, and if I were told of it by someone else, I’d struggle with believing it as well, but the truth is, I began writing this play before The Vagina Monologues got launched. So it’s not a reply to that fantastic piece of theatre (which needs no reply from anyone, either) and stylistically, it’s simply a different piece of work. And mine is far less famous, of course. THE PENIS PAPERS is more of a coming-of-age story than anything else, and it’s fun, too.
I find the idea (and the word) of penis to be very amusing, and that was the source of inspiration for writing this play. It began as a play on words, then went somewhere completely unexpected and personal for me. This is a very personal piece of work.
The first production of it was directed by Karina Miller, and starred Ato Essandoh, Adam Rothenberg, and me (yeah, I know, I did a bit of acting) at Manhattan Theatre Source in the West Village. I may have pictures from that, but I can’t locate them at this time.
THE PENIS PAPERS would later be staged numerous times and in other parts of the country, but director Kathe Mull staged a couple of fun productions a few years back that were extremely successful. I have a few pictures from that time.
The play is royalty-free to stage for amateur and educational productions, simply because I wrote it so it would go out and be free, and I hope that folks enjoy it. If you know the play, please do me the favor of leaving a review on Amazon.
This is the seventh full-length play I’ve written and had produced. I’ve written two others, THE HOT NAKED TRUTH and THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE, both of which have had multiple readings, but have yet to be staged anywhere, so they’re not published as of yet, and so I won’t be including them in this series until they are.
Here are the links to the other plays:
Let me know your thoughts, thank you for allowing me to share my journey, and please remember, theatre is important to our culture, always has been, always will be.
Online, it could use some love, as it’s not as well-known as some of my other works, so please leave your reviews of the play here: THE PENIS PAPERS
I don’t charge for this newsletter, but gotta be honest, times are hard, so please consider some additional support, which you can offer via this button:
